![]() The program was able to expand to all Title I schools in the county thanks to a $1.25 million grant from the Oak Foundation announced in 2021. The honor was one of two awards presented to community partners during the evening, which was a celebration of the system’s top educators, staff and students. This year, the ABSS Community Impact Award was given to Alamance Community College for its transformative impact on countless individuals, allowing them to achieve their goals and realize their full potential.Ībout 300 Elon University students and other volunteers now annually tutor children and partner with parents and guardians, 60 public school teachers, and school liaisons and principals in all 12 Title I elementary schools in the Alamance-Burlington School System. The project is a collaboration between Elon tutors and Alamance-Burlington Schools teachers and principals to improve the academic attainment of elementary grade students in the 12 Title One schools from surrounding Alamance County communities. Students must maintain at least a 2.7 cum GPA and be enrolled full-time at Elon, maintaining 28 credit hours per year or more. If a student receives scholarships or grants from sources other than Elon University and the combination of all scholarships and grants exceeds the cost of attendance (tuition, fees, room and board plus Elon’s annual estimate for books, transportation and miscellaneous expenses) the amount in excess of this cost of attendance will be used to reduce the amount of Elon University scholarships and grants awarded to the student. The recipient may also receive any need-based aid for which they qualify. The Selection Committee will include members of the Elon University Office of Admissions and Financial Planning staff, including the staff adviser to the Transfer Student Organization. The award will be contingent on successful completion of all transferrable ACC coursework as reflected on the official final transcript. Announcement of the recipient will be made in the spring semester prior to fall enrollment. Recipients will be chosen from among those candidates whose credentials and interview most closely meet the guidelines for the award. Students whose academic success at Alamance Community College and whose profile of activities and involvement indicate leadership and commitment will be invited to interview with the selection committee. Every admissible student from Alamance Community College with at least 24 transferrable credit hours will be considered for this award. ![]() Since employee dependents are eligible for tuition remission, this scholarship is not available to them. ![]() It is renewable annually based on academic performance, citizenship and full-time enrollment. One scholarship of $22,500 will be awarded and applied to direct costs. Note: Alamance Community College students need to submit an application for transfer admission and all supporting application requirements on or before May 1 to be considered. ![]()
